But me he caught…saved – surprised to be loved!

But me he caught—reached all the way
    from sky to sea; he pulled me out
Of that ocean of hate, that enemy chaos,
    the void in which I was drowning.
They hit me when I was down,
    but God stuck by me.
He stood me up on a wide-open field;
    I stood there saved—surprised to be loved!

God made my life complete
    when I placed all the pieces before him.
When I got my act together,
    he gave me a fresh start.
Now I’m alert to God’s ways;
    I don’t take God for granted.
Every day I review the ways he works;
    I try not to miss a trick.
I feel put back together,
    and I’m watching my step.
God rewrote the text of my life
    when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes.

Psalm 18:16-24

Help HIM get over the summer hump

Dear friends,

Summer is a challenging time for HIM.

Donations are always down and income from registration fees are practically nonexistent. It’s a dry season, and we often feel like camels making their way across the endless desert to the oasis that is fall.

That’s why we need your help.

Help us get over the hump with a short, three-month commitment this summer. $50, $30 or even $15 a month during these summer months would bless us tremendously. Or give and go with a “hump-sum” summer gift of $25, $50 or $100 if it’s easier for you.

All we are praying for is Gideon’s 300 (see Judges 7). We are looking for just 300 new donors to give monthly for the next 3 months. We believe in and are looking expectantly for the 300 whom God calls. We invite you to be one of them.

Please be a summer time friend and support HIM today. We need your help. Any registration fees we receive, we put aside to cover the cost of that particular conference or seminar. The donations we need now are for paying the HIM staff, electricity bills, our monthly rent – and for keeping HIM alive until the next conference.

We are grateful for your ministry to and with us.

In Him, Jesus Christ,
Dan and Pam Chun

- HOW TO GIVE -

Congratulations Pastor Jim Stern, winner of HIM's iPad mini drawing!

HIM announced its iPad mini drawing at Honolulu 2013. Anyone registering full-time for Honolulu 2014 at this year's conference was eligible to enter to win an iPad mini. One entry per full-time registration was distributed.
HIM's President, Dan Chun, sifting through hundreds of entries and pulling out Pastor Jim Stern's entry form. Jim, Pastor of Kapahulu Bible Church, was all smiles when he walked into the HIM office to pick-up his prize.

Bethany Hamilton's surprise visit to Honolulu 2011. She's got such a beautiful smile!

We were surprised and delighted when Bethany Hamilton's brother Noah told us he thought Bethany "might" be on the island after all during Honolulu 2011. She was supposed to be on the mainland doing a media blitz for Soul Surfer, the theatrically-released movie based on Bethany's inspirational recovery after a shark bit off her left arm while surfing on Kaua‘i.

But all we knew was she was on the island.
She could show up.
She hoped to show up.
We'll let you know.

They did let us know. During the opening worship session of the conference on Thursday night of general session, the call came in. Bethany was on her way. In fact, Bethany might actually be in the house now. But where? And exactly when? When HIM co-founder  Dan Chun got on stage to introduce her, even he didn't know where she was: Was she in the ballroom at the back? Would someone walk her down the aisle? When he said her name, where would she appear? In fact, she was backstage waiting in the wings with Bethany's friend and ours, Sumo Sato.

None of this was rehearsed. It was pure Bethany sharing herself and her story. Thank you, Bethany! You blessed so many that night!

Get to know Shaunti Felhahn: What is The Male Factor? We're betting it's not what you think! #HON2011

We're so excited about Shaunti Feldhahn coming to speak at Honolulu 2011, we can hardly stand it! Yes, she'll be talking about The Male Factor. She'll also be talking about lots more!

Shaunti began her career as an analyst on Wall Street and then applied  her background and skills to investigating eye-opening truths that many of us tend to miss.

Stuff like what women don't get about men.
Stuff like ways women in the workplace can avoid unintentional self-sabotage and be particularly effective and influential with male bosses, colleagues, clients or subordinates.
Stuff like how men can cultivate positive working relationships.

We could go on and on but, better yet, watch the video and let Shaunti speak for herself. When you're done with that, sign up for Honolulu 2011, March 24-26, 2011 and come hear Shaunti tell it like it is in person. She'll be participating in the Leadership Forum preconference session - geared toward leaders - Thursday day, March 24, where she'll be joined by the likes of Ken Blanchard, Margie Blanchard, and David Kinnaman of The Barna Group. She'll also be leading several workshops during the main Honolulu 2011 conference.
